Position:         Senior Architectural Designer, located at Philadelphia, PA

Summary:      Sr. Architectural Designer works under the supervision of Architect performing architectural designing functions.

Job Duties:

Conduct Design Research and Code Analysis.
•    Research and study city planning strategy to combine into project concept.
•    Research and analyze zoning codes, building codes and barrier free compliance.
•    Conduct post-occupancy evaluation and review of clients’ use of space.
•    Conduct material and product research for exteriors and interiors.
•    Source and contact manufactures from U.S. and China for material samples.
 
Training.
•    Manage the design team, including consultants, by identifying and delegating specific design tasks and communicating deadlines.
•   Determine staff, training, and software/equipment needs.
•    Run internship program by creating curriculum, training procedures, scheduling performance reviews and evaluating future placement
 
Develop Creative Design Solutions.
•    With preliminary direction from a licensed architect, utilize independent thinking to develop approaches in and coordinate all phases of architectural and interior design for large scale (from 100,000+ SQ ft) multistory mixed-use, retail, commercial and residential projects, from master plan, predesign, concept design, schematic design and design development through construction documentation review, and construction advisory. Projects include new construction, modification to existing structural systems, competition, space planning, initial concept development, retail diagram and custom detailing.
•    Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), structural, landscape, curtain wall system, signage, lighting, transportation system, and fire consultants to incorporate engineering systems into unified design for client and agency review and approval.
•    Develop and execute appropriate interior design solutions to produce space plans, furniture layout plans, interior elevations, reflected ceiling plans, interior paving plans, and handrail design.
•    Develop lighting layout and design based on understanding of photometric data and daylight analysis.
•    Work with domestic and overseas suppliers about exterior lighting design, signage design, billboard and LED location design.
•    Incorporate LEED sustainable design principles.
•    Apply architectural principles to review all related shop drawings, samples and mock-ups.
 
Produce Design Presentations and Construction Drawings.
•    Use 2D/3D building information modeling (BIM) programs, including REVIT, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, and 3D Studio Max to draft construction documents and digital rendered design drawings.
•    Use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Microsoft Office Suite to produce clear and compelling design presentations.
•    Free hand sketch perspectives, axonometric, space plans, elevations and details for presentations.
•    Develop program layout, site plans, site sections, 3D digital massing and physical site modeling during pre-design phase.
•    Develop 3D digital massing, concept diagram making, area arrangement, floor plans, space plans, interior space concept, building elevations, sections and perspectives during concept design phase.
•    Develop enlarged plans, elevations, sections, details and axonometric drawings using 3D digital modeling during schematic phase.
•    Develop foundation plan, building sections, structure detail drawings and electrical plans during construction documentation phase.
•    Make material board for internal record and design presentations.
 
Construction Administrations.
​•    Assist with contract proposal making, budget estimating, establishing task schedule and manpower requirements consistent with the project allotment.
•    Set up project BIM system, organize project data and document and respond to requests for information, clarifications, and modifications from interior designers and contractors.
•    Participate in and coordinate meetings with consultants and public agencies on a given project.
•    Identify weekly project requirements and projecting long term needs.
•    Coordinate project contractor agreements and project budgets; Assist with reviewing and approving contractor payments; Evaluate bids, estimates, and contract budget.
 
Job Requirements:
 

• Minimum Master’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Design or related degree;
• 6+ months project experience in an architectural or interior design practice;
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, SketchUp, Rhino, 3dMax, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), and MS Office;
• In depth knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction and building structures;
• Technical understanding of architectural design, interior and furniture design;
• Strong design and visualization skills;
• Ability to mentor junior designers and interns.
